ACUPUNCTUREAmanda Gordon
PgDip Acu - MSc - BA(Hons) - MBAcC
I am a registered TCM (Traditional Chinese Medical) Acupuncturist and a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC). Qualified to postgraduate level, I graduated from the highly-regarded Northern College of Acupuncture in York following three years of MSc level study.
Based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, I use acupuncture alongside supplementary TCM treatments to support you in resolving your health complaints so that you can fully participate in your life. I fully believe in the Chinese medicine view that you should be treated as a whole person, not only as a diagnosed condition, and I love to draw on the ever-growing body of research evidence about acupuncture to inform your treatment.
Alongside clinical practice, from 2022-2025 I also held the post of Course Director for the BSc in Acupuncture at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York, one of the UK’s longest-standing and most respected acupuncture education institutions. Prior to qualifying as an acupuncturist in 2020, I worked in philanthropy and social impact consulting with charities addressing educational and social disadvantage, and I carry a deep conviction that we all deserve liveable, dignified and satisfying lives.
Born and raised in southwest London, I have lived in Sheffield for the past decade with my Yorkshireman husband and more recently our two young children and our bouncy labradoodle.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine is a great all-round preventative and regulating general medicine. I am really passionate about using it to help keep our day to day foundations steady - making our minds calm, our nervous systems safe, our bodies functional and pain-free - so that we can fully participate in our lives, without limitation.
Acupuncture is a safe, non-pharmaceutical approach in the treatment of a wide spectrum of complaints including headache and migraine, regulating sleep and treating insomnia, alleviating stress and anxiety, supporting recovery from injury, and alleviating chronic pain. It is also great for warding off coughs and cold.
Acupuncture offers excellent support for women’s health throughout all stages of life. supporting women to achieve a healthy, pain-free menstrual cycle; through the physiological and emotional demands of pregnancy, motherhood and the perinatal period; through to a comfortable, empowered experience of perimenopause and menopause.
I have also completed in-depth research on the application of auricular acupuncture to reduce preoperative anxiety in surgical patients, and offer ear acupuncture and acupressure (ear seeds) both as part of your main acupuncture treatments and as a standalone treatment.

I believe the connection between our minds and bodies to be the most fundamental axis on which our health turns.
Imbalances or disharmony in the body can give rise to changes in our emotional state, energy, and our sense of wellbeing and power. Equally, emotions such as anxiety, grief and anger can disturb our physiological balance when we are unable to move through them. This fundamental relationship is at the heart of Chinese medicine, and acupuncture is a subtle, powerful tool for restoring our balance and recalibrating the mind and body.I believe that we should be able to bring our whole self into our healthcare.
My treatment room is a safe space where all bodies are welcome. You can expect non-judgment, a supportive ethos, and a recognition that we are all connected into our lives, work, relationships, nature and the wider world in complicated ways - and that this shows up in our health. Our context, values and experiences aren’t separate to our feelings of health and illness, they are deeply interconnected - and it is all welcome here. -
To quote my friend Keri Jarvis, everyone deserves liveable, dignified, satisfying lives - and that includes you. For me, this also means you deserve access to resources and treatments that maintain your good health. I aim to keep my treatment rates as affordable as possible for this reason.
A great way to access acupuncture on a more affordable basis than 1:1 treatment is via a multibed clinic. This is a setting where a number of patients might be receiving treatment at once - so you might be resting with your needles in while the next person has a chat with the practitioner. Your confidentiality and privacy are respected throughout.
Sheffield benefits from really wonderful multibed treatment options if this sounds like the right option for you, including Sheffield Community Acupuncture at the Zest Centre, S6, and Annette Lucas at 4GoodHealth, S11.
Many private health insurers will also cover part or all of the cost of a course of acupuncture treatment - if you have a policy it is worth having a look. Providers like Westfield also offer ‘health cash plans’ which straightforwardly reimburse costs from acupuncture and a range of other therapies. We often feel like we would benefit from a multi-therapy approach to what is bothering us (e.g. acupuncture and physiotherapy) but the cost feels prohibitive and we feel ‘forced’ to choose. Health plans might be a good option for you in this case, but do your research and remember you will need to be organised about claiming your costs back.
